i stand on the sidewalk of time: psalm 14

I stand on the sidewalk of time,
Waiting for redemption.

On the right is the corner of hope and gladness.
On the left, despair and sadness.

In my dreams, I can picture the right with shining lights, music, and laughter.
An entourage of gladness and vindication.

In my waking, a more modest redemption greets our eyes.
And with crying hearts and smiling eyes we'll embrace,
And kiss our redeemers face.

מי יתן מציון ישועת ישראעל (תהלים יד:ז)
Who can give, from Zion, the salvation of Israel? (Psalms 14:7)

This poem is an answer to the psalmist's question by exploring the tradition that salvation will happen either in a perfectly righteous or totally underserving generation.
